Hypnosis Manchester FAQ

What is hypnosis?

Hypnosis is a trance state of heightened relaxation and altered awareness and is completely safe and natural.

In fact, it is normal for people to enter different levels of trance states through out the day, for example when reading, working on a computer, driving your car or just relaxing while watching the TV.

Your subconscious mind

About 90% of our behaviour is maintained and controlled by the subconscious mind. That leaves around 10% of our daily actions under control of our conscious mind.  This could explain why so many people struggle to control certain habits or change problematic behaviours because so many things happen beneath the surface, in the subconscious mind.

Hypnotherapy uses the relaxed hypnotic state as a way of communicating with the subconscious in order to accelerate positive, lasting changes to how you think and behave. What is Cognitive Behavioural Therapy?

Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (or CBT as it commonly known) is a form of psychotherapy that emphasises the important role of thinking in how we feel and what we do.

At its very heart is the concept that the root of any feeling or behaviour is a thought and that for negative feelings or behaviours specifically, quite often an irrational thought.

CBT helps us to make sense of our significant emotional reactions by dividing them up into smaller parts, allowing us to break them down and understand the relationship between situations we find ourselves in, the thoughts we have about them, how this makes us feel both physical and emotionally, and the actions we then take.

What is Neuro Linguistic Programming (NLP)?

Neuro Linguistic Programming (NLP) has been described as a software manual for the brain. It is a proven model for accelerating human change and is used as a means to improve the way we think, feel and behave.

Ultimately, NLP is a model of communication that focuses on identifying and using patterns of language and thought to influence a person's behaviour. It offers a definition of how the brain works (neuro), about how all language interacts with the brain (linguistic) and how we use this interaction to get the results we want for ourselves and others (programming).
